July meeting

Hey songwriters,
Great meeting last night with several new members, varied instrumentation and some outstanding songs, followed by a heartfelt featured set by Kate Snow (katesnow@katesnow.com) and a really good open stage showcasing more outstanding songs.
At Haley Rohlf’s (hrohlf@gmail.com) suggestion, the optional assignment for the 7 p.m. Aug. 6 meeting is to incorporate a rap into a song. Interpret that as you will — your staccato lyrics delivered in time with a beat could encompass the whole song or part of it. It could sound like contemporary hip-hop, early rap as in Blondie’s “Rapture”, folky spoken word a la Bob Dylan’s “Talkin’ World War III Blues” or anything you come up with.
The featured performer will be David Michael King (kingsomma@igc.org).

SummerSounds
Despite a couple of rain-threatened evenings, the free outdoor music festival in Greensburg is going very well. Songwriters Circle members performing the pre-show sets have played for as many as 2,500 spectators, and the headliners have been very good. Get directions and details at www.summersounds.com. Our members play 6:15-6:45 p.m., headliners 7-9 p.m.
Here’s the July schedule:
July 5 Brother Josephus & the Love Revolution – Donna O (belladonnaocc@yahoo.com)
July 12 Sweetback Sisters – Mo Nelson (monelson@hotmail.com)
July 19 Jessie Dee – Ryan Egan (ryanegan5@gmail.com)
July 26 Gugenheim Grotto – Ben Shannon (benshannonmusic@gmail.com)

Songwriters Circle deck party
Hope you can make it to my place Sat., July 13, 3 p.m.-? for a very casual cook-out deck party. I’ll provide the grill-ables and beverages, you bring a side dish or dessert, guests and musical instruments.
I’m in the South Hills down around Elizabeth at 101 Daggette Dr., Buena Vista, 15018. Google Maps gets it right. GPS errantly sends you to a dirt road 200 yards up the hill from Daggette Drive, which is located off Rock Run Road across from Pamela’s Greenhouse.
Home phone is 412-751-7744. Park on the street — please don’t block my neighbors’ driveways. RSVP at jhayes@post-gazette.com.
Thanks,
John
