July meeting

Hey songwriters,
Great meeting last night with several new members, varied instrumentation and some outstanding songs, followed by a heartfelt featured set by Kate Snow (katesnow@katesnow.com) and a really good open stage showcasing more outstanding songs.
At Haley Rohlf’s (hrohlf@gmail.com) suggestion, the optional assignment for the 7 p.m. Aug. 6 meeting is to incorporate a rap into a song. Interpret that as you will — your staccato lyrics delivered in time with a beat could encompass the whole song or part of it. It could sound like contemporary hip-hop, early rap as in Blondie’s “Rapture”, folky spoken word a la Bob Dylan’s “Talkin’ World War III Blues” or anything you come up with.
The featured performer will be David Michael King (kingsomma@igc.org).

SummerSounds
Despite a couple of rain-threatened evenings, the free outdoor music festival in Greensburg is going very well. Songwriters Circle members performing the pre-show sets have played for as many as 2,500 spectators, and the headliners have been very good. Get directions and details at www.summersounds.com. Our members play 6:15-6:45 p.m., headliners 7-9 p.m.

Songwriters Circle deck party
Hope you can make it to my place Sat., July 13, 3 p.m.-? for a very casual cook-out deck party. I’ll provide the grill-ables and beverages, you bring a side dish or dessert, guests and musical instruments.
