Pittsburgh Marathon Performance May 5, 2019

Spring is always a busy time for the Songwriters Circle.
• Sun., May 5 you’re all invited to a fun morning gig as Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle cheers on tens of thousands of runners at the Pittsburgh Marathon. Our spot is at North Braddock Avenue and Kelly Street in South Homewood (because of road closures approach from Kelly Street). We’ll have a generator, sound by group member Dennis Malley (denmalley@gmail.com), performance tents and tarps. Bring a folding chair, your family (kids enjoy cheering on the runners), friends and breakfasty stuff — we make it a morning picnic. First runners expected to pass our corner at 7:45 a.m.; stragglers around 11:50 a.m.; we’re out of there by about 12:30 p.m. Day of event, contact me at 412-335-1446.
• Next meeting: 7 p.m. Tue., May 7 at Hambone’s (4207 Butler St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201, 412-681-4318). Suggested songwriting assignment: Put a bass line on your song, details at pittsburghsongwriterscircle.org.
• Visit the AcoustiCafe open stage at Mr. Small’s Funhouse (400 Lincoln Ave, 2nd Floor, Millvale, PA 15209, 412-821-4447 x209) when Bronwyn Doyle (bronwyndoyle@gmail.com) plays the Pittsburgh Songwriters Featured Set on Mon., May 20. • The deadline to submit your $100 duping-participation fee to put a song on this year’s compilation album is May 31. The next deadline is just a week later, June 7. By that day participants have to have contacted producer Mike Hickman (512-785-2132, studio@fallguys.net) to set a first recording date. Calliope: The Pittsburgh Folk Music Society will underwrite the group’s CD release event at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts on Fri., Dec. 6.
In April:
• Kate Snow (katesnow731@gmail.com) showcased some of her songs during the Songwriters Circle Featured Set at the AcoustiCafe at Mr. Small’s Funhouse, April 15.
• Ten group members performed an outstanding showcase at The Barn, April 26. The house got paid, members who sold more than four tickets kept the overage, and the group pocketed $115 that will be put toward this year’s album project and misc. expenses.
• Dozens of Circle members played half-hour sets at the Annual Art All Night festival April 27-28 at a coffeehouse stage organized by member Brian Junker (junkerb@gmail.com).
