June Meeting Recap
Hey songwriters,
Just about everybody had a song inspired by a movie at the June meeting of Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle. With three newcomers in attendance, the group critiqued old songs and new and discussed aspects of publishing law before a solid featured set by Frankie Lee(viennaf@comcast.net). Scheduled performer Heather Kropf (heatherkropf@gmail.com ) was unable to attend due to a medical problem. We’ll reschedule her set when she’s up to it — best wishes Heather.
Next meeting is July 1 at Bloomfield Bridge Tavern. Optional songwriting assignment: Summer. Featured performer is unconfirmed — I’ll get back to you about that.

Annual CD project
Thirty-four songwriters, including eight new to the series, are signed up to put a song on this year’s album project. That’s another double-disc album and more players than we could stage in the time we’re allotted for our Nov. 14 CD release event at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. I’m working with Calliope to get a second date. I’ll keep you posted.
Session-scheduling deadline: June 6. By that date, project participants must get on producerDoug Wilkin’s schedule. Your first session can be later, but you have to get it on his books byFriday. Contact Doug at 412-736-9068, djwaudio@comcast.net.

Retrospective album project
The second CD we’re doing this year — in celebration of the album project’s tenth year — is progressing more or less on schedule. Through donations at our GoFundMe site and about $200 raised at our May 9 benefit concert at The Barn in Penn Hills, we have raised more than half of what we’ll need for replication/packaging/

SummerSounds
For the fourth year, members of Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle will provide all of the pre-show entertainment at the Greensburg SummerSounds Music Festival, running June 6 through Aug. 29. The festival is free, the headliners are mostly up-and-coming and Circle members get paid well to play 30 minutes of original songs for attentive audiences that can number in the thousands. If you can make it to Greensburg on a Friday, please support your fellow songwriters. Details including good directions at www.summersounds.com. The festival opens Fri., June 6 with Nicole Akins — Circle member Gerard Rohlf (gerard.rohlf@fiserv.com) goes on at 6:10 p.m.
