JULY 2019 NEWSLETTER

Hey songwriters,

Interesting meeting July 2, when old friends and new members discussed writing in another performer’s voice, whether for personal inspiration or as a way to get your song on a chart-topping monster. Members showcased songs written in the voices of Jimmy Buffet, Paul Simon, Guy Clark, Norah Jones and others, and talked about why they chose to reflect the work of those artists.

Several songs were rich in character development, which inspired the suggested August songwriting assignment: Write a character-driven song. Hear some great examples on the Monthly Assignments page at pittsburghsongwriterscircle.org.

Our next meeting runs 7-9 p.m. Aug. 6 at Hambone’s (4207 Butler St., Pittsburgh [Lawrenceville], 412-681-4318).

CD project

No complaints from our producer and no one has backed out of the project. Please keep track of who played and sang on your recording and start collecting their correct name spellings. I’ll be asking for your song credits by the the Aug. 23 deadline for album jacket text.
